Inital Idea and Analysis of Genre

Initial Idea

I would like to base my initial idea around teaching moral, this will be based at a teenage audience. I would like the storyline to be based around teenage knife crime in the UK and the consequence that carry one has on you and your future,  this idea was inspired by the short film Deep It. I would like the moral of the story to be released at the end with a key message being conveyed. I would like sections of the story to be mixed up the end and start to begin the same, this is so that the audience are hooked on the storyline from the beginning. I will also do this so that the key message is the first and last thing presented. I would also like to have sections of the film where the clip is paused and the speaker thoughts in their head are heard, this will allow the audience to also evaluate his decisions. I would like to have minimal actors but extras to make the scenes look realistic. I would like to use the characters costume and make-up to present their class and status.I would like to not use chronological order and mix up the story as I would like the most impact and hard hitting section of the film to be the first and last scene in the film so that it stays with the audience. This will make the storyline more gripping and interesting to watch.
PLOT
BEGINNING - The film will start with a pan of the body that is presumed dead. This will be a silent clip and as it reaches the head a phone call will click in this will be an answer phone or a police phone call. I would then like the next clip to be of evidence bags whilst the phone call lasts. This will add impact, we will of not met the victim yet but would have seen its appearance. I would then like it to switch back to the start and we see the victim walking down the road, one headphone in and the audio can be heard, I will then have his phone ring and he will pick up, I would like him to talk about how someone wanted to fight him and sound as if they have had a past. MIDDLE - I will then flip to clips of the evidence bags and the blood on the streets. I would then like to introduce pictures of the victim and his family. I will have short burst clips of the fight mixed in. I will then pan to the aggressor putting the knife in his trousers and he answers a call which is from her boyfriend, I would like the moral of the call to say be safe. END - The end will focus on the stabbing, you will not see the faces but it will focus on the knife, it will focus on the torso and the victim falling to the floor. I will then flip to the evidence bags again and then rewind to when he pulled out the knife. I would like this to flip to different scenes but the ending will pan back on the body, I would also like this to be silent so that the scene is more emotive.
CHARACTERS
-Victim
- Aggressor
- Caller
PROPS
A knife is needed for the stabbing scene, this can be real as the audience is not going to see the actual knife go in. Fake blood is also needed as there needs to look realistic and I also want blood to be seen on the knife as it drops on the floor.

Analysis Of Genre
The genre which my film will sit in is crime. As the basis of my idea being about the awareness of knife crime and how it can effect anyone around you. I will have someone being stabbed in the film which will show the crime itself and will be hard hitting to watch.

The genre of crime is self explanatory and based on a crime that will be taking place during the film weather this is murder or theft. The films are mainly realistic and hard hitting. The typial conventions are drastic angle changes to add to the tension and mystery in the films. They traditionaly have low key lighting and shadow, this also adds to the mystery and tension but also is used to make the scene seem scary. The music and sound tends to be agression and violence.

Comments

  1. NJO - I think this could be a really interesting and empowering film Millie. One of the most important things for you will be making sure that you use the timing of the film effectively. Will you split the film timings equally or will your alternative story be sped up to just include the vital changes?
Secondly, continue working on your characters and their backgrounds/ how you want to present them.
